Caisson Technology Assessment
A clearer next step for your technology decision
Before you renew a contract, replace a system, or choose a provider, talk through the decision with an independent technology advisor.
A Technology Assessment starts with a conversation about your organization, what is changing, and what you need to decide. Caisson helps clarify priorities, surface the questions that matter, and determine a practical next step.
Start with the situation you are facing. You do not need a complete technology inventory or a provider shortlist.

When a technology assessment makes sense
For business owners, executives, operations and finance leaders, and IT decision-makers who want an objective perspective on a real business technology decision.
A contract or cost decision
A renewal is approaching, costs are rising, or overlapping vendors make it difficult to understand what you are paying for and what should change.
A service that needs to work better
Business internet is unreliable, backup connectivity is unclear, your phone system is aging, or your provider is no longer meeting expectations.
A business change to plan for
An office move, expansion, communications upgrade, cloud decision, cybersecurity provider evaluation, or AI initiative needs a clearer direction.
You may have one specific question or several connected decisions. An objective second opinion is a useful starting point for either.
Start with your business
The first question is what your technology needs to help the organization accomplish. We put the current environment in context before discussing products.
Priorities and constraints
Your goals, operational requirements, business impact, budget considerations, decision-makers, and deadlines.
What is already in place
Relevant services, providers, contracts, renewal dates, known concerns, and dependencies that could shape the decision.
The aim of the initial conversation is a clearer understanding of the decision, the information still needed, and whether Caisson is the right advisor to help you move forward.
How the process works
01 / Understand
Talk through the situation
Share what prompted the conversation, what is working, what needs attention, and any upcoming commitments.
02 / Assess
Focus the decision
Identify the priorities, constraints, and open questions that deserve attention. We focus on the areas relevant to your situation.
03 / Agree the next step
Choose an appropriate path
That may be a focused provider comparison, additional discovery, or a more detailed review. We discuss the scope before further work begins.
WHEN THE NEXT STEP IS A TECHNOLOGY FOUNDATION REVIEW
A Technology Assessment may show that the decision is broader than a single issue. In that case, Caisson may recommend a Technology Foundation Review—a deeper, structured advisory process focused on the relevant parts of your technology environment.
Depending on that scope, Caisson can examine requirements, evaluate technology and provider alternatives, explain trade-offs, and develop prioritized recommendations. The work, timing, commercial arrangements, and any deliverables are agreed before proceeding.
Scheduling the initial assessment does not commit either party to a comprehensive review.
FIVE TECHNOLOGY FOUNDATIONS. FOCUS WHERE IT MATTERS.
We consider the connections between these areas without turning every conversation into a five-part checklist.
Connectivity
Business internet, provider availability, performance, redundancy, and the needs of your locations. Explore business internet options.
Communications
Business phone systems, UCaaS, Microsoft Teams Voice, collaboration, and customer call flows. Explore UCaaS.
Cloud
Application and infrastructure choices, access, dependencies, and provider fit for the way your organization works.
Cybersecurity
Technology and provider choices in the context of business risk, existing responsibilities, and resilience priorities.
Artificial Intelligence
Practical use cases, business value, readiness, data considerations, and questions to resolve before adoption.
Independent advice. An ongoing relationship.
Brian Wade founded Caisson in 2004 to help organizations make technology decisions with a broader view of the available options. You work directly with an advisor who starts with your requirements and explains the trade-offs.
Broad provider knowledge
Compare suitable alternatives against your operational needs, costs, contract terms, support expectations, and long-term fit.
Practical judgment
Understand where change may help, what needs further evaluation, and how existing commitments affect the path forward.
Continuity over time
Caisson remains an advisory resource for provider decisions, renewals, changes, and future needs as your business evolves.

We discuss whether a focused next step or a broader review makes sense. If further advisory work is appropriate, we agree what needs to be evaluated and how to proceed. Provider comparison and recommendations follow the requirements and the agreed scope.
If you choose a solution, Caisson can help coordinate the selected providers and remain involved as needs change. Existing clients and organizations returning to Caisson can start with the renewal, change, or new priority in front of them.
Before you schedule
What should I prepare?
A brief description of the decision or problem, the business impact, and any deadlines is enough to start. Relevant provider names, renewal dates, or recent bills can help if readily available. We can identify additional information together.
Do we need to review all five technology foundations?
No. We begin with your situation. A contract renewal, connectivity concern, or one provider decision can be the entire focus.
Is the initial assessment a technical audit or a written report?
The initial assessment is an advisory conversation. Technical testing, a detailed audit, or a written report is not included in the booking. Any deeper review and its deliverables would need an agreed scope.
Are you recommending a particular provider?
We begin with your requirements and compare appropriate alternatives from a broad provider portfolio. Caisson may be compensated by a selected provider in some engagements; where applicable, we explain the arrangement. Recommendations are based on fit with your organization, including requirements, costs, contract terms, support expectations, and long-term strategy.
Can our internal IT team or existing IT provider be involved?
Yes. Their knowledge of your environment can help clarify requirements and responsibilities. Caisson's role is independent advice, provider evaluation, and coordination; your technology providers remain responsible for the services they deliver.
How long should I allow?
Plan on about 30 minutes for the initial Technology Assessment. If the situation requires additional discovery or a broader Technology Foundation Review, we will discuss that separately.
What if I would rather explain the situation first?
Start the Conversation with a brief message about your organization, the decision ahead, and any relevant timing.
